It’s officially July (and it’s Canada Day)!! Which means the 4th is right around the corner! For the whole weekend Provo is hosting an awesome series of events. The events are compiled in a huge patriotic extravaganza called The Freedom Festival which has arranged events such as the Tim McGraw concert at the Stadium of Fire, the Freedom Run 5k, and the Grand Parade!!

This morning, a few residents were able to witness the fantastic Balloon Festival held near Provo High School! Balloons fly each morning on July 1, 2 and 4 from 6:00am to 8am. Families and children may walk around the balloons as they inflate. Make sure and arrive at 6:00am to see the balloons inflate! Pilots participate in the Hare and the Hound competition where “hound” balloons drop bean bags onto a target laid out by the “hare.” Pilots obtain additional points through jousting as they attempt to pop large balloons with sharp sticks 200 to 300 feet above the ground. Top pilots from around the nation come to compete in this unique and difficult event. The majority of the Balloon Fest committee have been working together since the inception of this event 32 years ago.

Here are some pictures from the event this morning, and be sure to check out http://www.freedomfestival.org/ for more information about each event for this 4th of July weekend!!
